Lodge Park Academy

Lodge Park Academy understands the importance of a strong academic foundation. Our academy offers a diverse curriculum and enrichment offering to create well-rounded and confident students.

Character

“Character is everything, Not Just Another Thing”

Developing our Character Curriculum here at LPA is a huge part of our school focus for both staff and students.  Our aim is for all members of our LPA community to actively embrace our 6 core values and for the language of character to be used by all.

Ambition and Aspiration                   Resilience and Respect                       Courage and Gratitude

As well as exploring our LPA core values in Tutor Time, House and Year assemblies throughout the year we also want to make sure that our students can ‘live’ these values.  For example, when exploring the value of gratitude our students have a chance to discuss the importance of this, then have the opportunity to show it by writing a card to a member of staff or another student that is then placed on our ‘Tree of Gratitude’.

Twice a term students are nominated across tutor groups for going ‘Above & Beyond’ in demonstrating our core LPA values and three times a year students are nominated for trophies linked to our values.  Our Houseopoly initiative provides tutor groups and their houses with a visual and competitive rewards process for good behaviour, attendance, achievement and compliance where they can celebrate their successes and identify areas for improvement.

We actively encourage students to engage with our extra-curricular programme encouraging regular attendance and commitment as well as looking to regularly increase opportunities for students to support the development of our core LPA values and our Ravens Programme allows students the opportunity to attend sporting activities supporting them to overcome any difficulties which may stop them from attending after school.

The House System supports our students to develop their strength within a group and create bonds with students of all different ages, which mirrors everyday life. We promote and provide opportunity for student voice, student responsibility, team building, leadership skills and co-operation. The house system is underpinned by the academy core values with competitions organised to develop the characters of each individual student.

Our weekly House assemblies and weekly year assembly topics reflect the school’s character values and our students contribute to these assemblies where appropriate.

During the course of the academic year, students across all age groups are given various opportunities to develop their student leadership skills across a mixture of different settings.  These opportunities enable students to continually develop their leadership, communication, teamwork and resilience skills which prepare them for life at Lodge Park Academy and beyond.

Our House Student Leadership comprises of 4 House Captains, a Media and Charity Lead for each house and representatives for each tutor group.  They meet every 2 weeks to discuss upcoming House competitions, charity events and other topics of interest.  The House Captains meet weekly with the Senior Leadership Team and the games maker to discuss events.  They take part in assemblies, support House competitions and plan an event for their local charity.   Their roles support them to further develop the school values and their leadership skills.  They are also  keen to contribute to our community and have selected their own local charities to actively support.
